Until September 30th, Sam Holcroft’s darkly funny play – Rules for Living – runs at the Royal & Derngate.
Megan Heavisides-Bell, aged 14, Erin O’Callaghan, also 14, and Siena Rista, 16, auditioned earlier in the summer and will play the role in rotation until the end of the month.
So high was the the quality of the auditions, it was decided to take on all 3 actresses for the part.
The Youth and Young Companies consist of eight groups run by the Royal & Derngate, catering for young people aged 5 to 21. Supported by the resident production staff who manage the award winning Made In Northampton programme, the actors get the opportunity to work with industry professionals and develop as creative individuals in a friendly theatre environment.
Siena Rista explains: “The benefit of being a Young Company member is that you get experience of real theatre and develop skills needed as an actor such as working on a script, learning lines and being confident on stage.”
Megan Heavisides-Bell commented: “Royal & Derngate’s Youth Theatre and Young Company groups allow you to develop as a creative person, not just as an actor, and to see all of the things that go into creating a production. Working with stage managers, writers, designers and technicians also means that playing a role like Emma in a professional production isn’t quite so scary because you feel part of that world and already know some of the professionals you will be working with.”
Erin O’Callaghan added: “I am hoping to live up to the expectations of the professional actors and am excited to be part of this great production.”
Rules For Living explores the relationships between extended family at a traditional Christmas dinner – and the tensions that develop when they each attempt to apply their own rules for living.
Rules for Living runs at the Royal & Derngate until 30th September. Tickets available here.
