The tale of three Sleeping Beauties in Duston Players’ new Panto

Duston Players are no strangers to a panto at Christmas – and this year is no different. But this year sees them tackling a traditional fairy tale with a bit of a twist…

A twist which means there’s not just the one Princess – but three! Not to mention three Princes too, which means there’s a great deal more thigh slapping going on than usual.

Written especially for the group, Sleeping Beauty sees the sleepy residents of Snoozitania celebrating the arrival of the new heir to the throne. The citizens take a break from using their spinning wheels to spin the softest wool to welcome the new Princess. But when someone important doesn’t get an invite to the Christening party, the future of the laid back kingdom is at stake.

Staring a cast aged from 5 to 72, Sleeping Beauty features all your Panto favourites from fairies and disgruntled baddies, to the all important Dame, but this time they’re all frolicking about in the 1960s.

A spokesperson for the group said: “This is a really unique take on the classic fairy tale – which has been written specially for us. We’ve got such an amazing cast, who’ve put in weeks and weeks of hard graft and larking about to bring a festive favourite to their local community. The kids are wonderful – as we’ve got our Prince and Princess at different ages, we’ve got some real superstars in the making up on the stage this year.

Rebecca Cockcroft makes her co-directing debut, having starred as Queen Victoria in “Blackadder’s Christmas Carol”, and worked as Production Assistant for Masque’s recent “Defying Gravity” at The Playhouse Theatre.
