The group, from Market Harborough, are taking Bernard Slade’s “Same Time, Next Year” on tour, with stop-offs in Leicestershire and Bonkers Playhouse in Kettering.
Same Time, Next Year tells the story of New Jersey accountant George Peters and Oakland housewife Doris who meet at a Northern California inn in February 1951. They have an affair and agree to meet once a year, despite the fact both are married to others and have six children between them.
Over the course of the next 24 years, they develop an emotional intimacy deeper than what one would expect to find between two people meeting for a clandestine relationship just once a year. During the time they spend with each other, they discuss the births, deaths, and marital problems each is experiencing at home, while they adapt themselves to the social changes affecting their lives.
Founder and Producer Ellen Beardsmore said “My husband and I launched ‘e.g.’ back in 2012 (having both been members of the Youth Theatre and also performed with the Market Harborough Musical Theatre Society (formally known as the Operatic Society.) Having both trained in Performing Arts we decided we wanted to create professional theatre within the town.”
We have been performing at The Oat Hill for the past six summers and are thrilled to be returning in June and August of this year. It is a unique Dinner Theatre experience and the only one in the Midlands area. Our audiences are able to enjoy a delicious three-course meal and watch professional theatre all in the beautiful surroundings of the private Oat Hill garden.”
The group will perform the show at The Oat Hill, Market Harborough from 7-9 June 2018. They will also head to Kibworth Grammar School on 15th June, before reaching Bonkers Playhouse, Kettering, on the 22-23 June. Please note, only the evening Oat Hill dates include a three-course meal – the matinee performance is £25 and includes a BBQ Buffet, and all other performances are £15 each.
