Britain’s Got Talent Comic Comes To Royal & Derngate

Star of Britain’s Got Talent and Amanda Holden’s golden buzzer act, comedian Daliso Chaponda brings his debut stand up show What The African Said…, to Northampton’s Royal & Derngate on Thursday 15 February.

The Malawian comic was a stand out act in this year’s competition, capturing the hearts of the nation. From growing up in a country where the press cannot criticise the government, and living in other countries where the lack of libel laws mean the press can say anything, Chaponda is the perfect comedian to discuss what the media has become.

What The African Said… is a show about recent news, old news, fake news, and stories that never quite made the news.

Growing up he had never seen stand up comedy until he went to Montreal Just for Laughs. With no comedy circuit in Malawi he eventually moved to the UK and started performing at open mic nights that led to circuit gigs. Daliso has since appeared at many festivals, including Melbourne, Edinburgh, Singapore and Cape Town Festivals. He has also just had his own Radio 4 series entitled Daliso Chaponda: Citizen Of Nowhere.

Daliso Chaponda takes to the Royal stage on Thursday 15 February at 8pm. Tickets are priced at £16* and can be booked by calling Box Office on 01604 624811 or by visiting

* A charge of £3 applies for all transactions of £15 and over. Does not apply to Groups, Friends or Disabled Patrons, and is per-transaction, not per-ticket.
