The search for Northampton’s next Bard is on at this year’s Bardic Picnic

This year’s Bardic Picnic takes place on 5th August at Becket’s Park, and the hunt is on for a new Northampton Bard, and Junior Bard.

The free one-day family-friendly festival celebrates the spoken word and music performances, and has been running for almost a decade – there are 3 stages across the site featuring prose, poetry, rap and music, as well as a bar, veggie and vegan food, a kids area and craft stalls.

The search is on to find the next Bard of Northampton – a performer chosen to chronical and comment on local current affairs. Anyone can enter, and each entrant must prepare 3 pieces – one piece on the theme of the event, “belonging”, one piece of their own choice, and one final piece which will be their manifesto for their role as Bard – a position which lasts for a year and a day.
